Additional Info

This set includes a selection of items to support women at the end of pregnancy - from 32 weeks in the third trimester.

The perfect gift for an expectant mother during her final few weeks of pregnancy, with delicious and functional items.

Containing The Final Push, a blend of raspberry leaf and peppermint. Raspberry leaf has been traditionally linked with birth preparation, and studies have shown that it can help to reduce the second stage of labour (where you push).

Medjool dates - recommended by midwives and health care professions from 36 weeks of pregnancy, as they are linked to softening the cervix in preparation for labour.

Clary Sage Oil - a uterotonic, which is soothing, anti-inflammatory and calming.

The Final Push raspberry leaf tea is blended with whole raspberry leaf and peppermint. Drink from 32 weeks pregnant to help prepare you to meet your baby.  Linked to shorter 2nd stage labour and fewer interventions in birth.

Medjool Dates - are a good source of fibre, minerals, and vitamins, including potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and vitamin K. Small scale studies have shown that pregnant women who eat dates 4 weeks before their due date had a shorter first stage of labour and their cervix was softer before delivery.

Clary Sage Essential Oil - known as ‘the women’s oil’, Clary Sage is a popular remedy to soothe menstrual symptoms such as period pain and mood swings due to its calming and anti-inflammatory properties. It should not be used until 37 weeks. You do not apply it to your skin, but instead use it in a bath or add to an unscented carrier oil.

Does raspberry leaf bring on labour?

If you're overdue and reading this, sorry, but no! There is no evidence to show that drinking raspberry leaf when you're overdue will bring on labour although it gets spoken about a lot. However, there is much better research to show that drinking raspberry leaf tea can lead to a shorter second stage of labour (where you push) and fewer interventions in birth.  It is not guaranteed, but small scale studies in Australia show that statistically, raspberry leaf tea seems to help women.

When is it safe to drink raspberry leaf from?

NHS guidelines are to wait until 32 weeks at the earliest to drink any raspberry leaf tea.  Some NHS trusts even say to wait until 35 or 36 weeks.  However, all research studies into raspberry leaf start from 32 weeks.  We recommend starting with 1 cup a day, and building up to 2 cups and then 3 cups a day when you're 35 weeks.  From this point on, drink until your baby arrives!  It can even help you recover as it will speed up the movement of your uterus back to its normal position!  So do pop some Final Push raspberry leaf tea into your hospital bag.

What percentage of raspberry leaf is in The Final Push Raspberry Leaf tea?

It is 40% raspberry leaf and 60% peppermint. This is because the type of plastic free, biodegradable tea bag we use, cannot fit any more raspberry leaf into it!  But also because it makes the right balance of flavour and taste.  The peppermint is delicious but it also helps to aid digestion, which at the end of pregnancy can be hard!  And it can also help with heartburn which is a common problem in the third trimester.

How many dates do I need to eat at end of pregnancy?

It is generally recommended to eat 6 dates a day from 36 weeks of pregnancy. This is the amount that have been tested in studies. Whilst it's not a guarantee, it is worth a shot if you are not diabetic or having a high risk pregnancy.

When can I use clary sage?

There are no studies into clary sage and birth prep, but it is generally thought to be ok to use from 37 weeks - no earlier. As it has links to being a uterine tonic and many believe it can bring on labour, it cannot be used before 37 weeks.

How do I use clary sage?

You should not apply it to your skin directly, or undiluted. Instead, try any of the below methods:

1. Put 4 drops in a bowl of warm water and use it as a footbath.

2. Mix it with 20mls an unscented carrier oil - 4 drops if you are pregnant but then 8 drops if you are in labour, and put this on your skin.

3. Put 4 drops in a bowl of warm water and then drop a flannel in, wring it out and then apply to your skin.

4. Put 4 drops in a bowl of warm water, swish it around and then inhale it with your head under a towel or leave near you to inhale
