Milk's Up MilkShake
Keeping hydrated during summer whilst breastfeeding can be a struggle, but don't worry we have got your back…
If you love milkshakes and chocolate this is the drink for you! Packed full of natural galactagogues, our delicious Milk's Up Milkshake is cooling, delicious and sooo chocolatey!
Ingredients
1 x Milks Up tea bag
2 tsp cocoa or dark chocolate powder (we used Blendsmiths)
100 ml barista oat milk
A handful of ice
Method
- Brew your Milk's Up tea with 330ml of boiling water, and allow to cool
- Add your cooled tea to a blender with the cocoa, oat milk, and ice
- Wizz up until the ice is broken down to a slushy consistency
- Pour into a glass and enjoy!
If you would like to sweeten your milkshake, the caramel-fudge flavours of brown sugar would work really well! Make sure to add the sugar whilst your Milk's up is brewing, and still hot, so that it dissolves fully.
Benefits
Oats - beta-glucan is found in oats, which is a type of fibre that's thought to raise the levels of breastfeeding hormone prolactin. Higher prolactin levels can have a positive effect on breast milk
Milk's Up - contains fennel, nettle, fenugreek seeds, lemon verbena and aniseed. All of these herbs have been traditionally used to support lactation, but they also taste delicious!
Fennel and fenugreek have the strongest links to increasing milk supply in small scale research.
