How to brew the perfect iced tea

The perfect iced tea is easy, cooling and delicious on a hot day. You can whip up a jug in no time, then sweeten it, or infuse it with the flavourings of your choice.

Here’s everything you need to know to brew the best iced tea:

Hot Brew

Hot brewing is a great option when you want to make something quickly, for immediate consumption.

Simply brew your tea in the same way you would if you were planning to drink it hot, then cool it down as quickly as possible by adding ice, and topping up with cold water.

BEST FOR: when you’re short on time, or you want to dissolve sugar or honey in to the drink before chilling. Perfect if you are making our No-jito recipe, as it contains brown sugar, and adding whilst hot will allow it to dissolve, to give a more balanced sweetness.

Cold brew

This slower infusion pulls out the most distinct flavours of the tea, such as the floral and fruity notes, resulting in a smoother, stronger infusion.
Add your tea bags to a clean, lidded bottle before brewing your tea with boiling water. Allow to cool with the tea bags, and refrigerate it for 6 hours, or overnight.
BEST FOR: teas with floral characters such as green tea, or when planning to drink the iced tea as-is, with no further additions, such as our Take a Pause menopause tea.
A pile of books on menopause with HotTea Mama's organic Take A Pause menopause tea say on top of them, with a cold brew bottle of iced tea and a cup of infused tea
