Tea focus - Night Owl
Night Owl is one of the original 6 blends that Bethan designed when HotTea Mama was launched.
Each of the ingredients in Night Owl have been carefully selected to help you to relax, or soothe away the stresses of daily life, or ease you gently into a good nights sleep.
From Bethan:
"This tea was originally called the 3am blend, as it was developed to help sleep, and I drank it at 3am to help get back to sleep when I was wide awake. For mums who are up with kids in the night, or any one during menopause suffering from broken sleep, it can be a real support."
Whilst Night Owl is not a medicine, each of the ingredients have been shown to be beneficial in supporting either relaxation, sleep or reducing anxiety.
Chamomile
Chamomile has long been used as an ingredient to calm, especially before bedtime. It is completely caffeine-free, and research has shown that it can also be beneficial in reducing anxiety.
One clinical study showed that taking capsules containing chamomile extract daily for 8 weeks significantly reduced anxiety rating scores compared to placebo in adult patients with generalised anxiety disorder.
In Night Owl chamomile brings a soothing, mellow floral note to the blend.
RooboisRoobois contains magnesium and calcium – both minerals which play a role in a good night’s sleep is a caffeine-free herbal ingredient that contains magnesium and calcium, both minerals which are known to aid a good night’s sleep.
Roobois has also been shown to help to reduce the level of cortisol in your body. The cortisol compound causes stress in the body, but can be reduced by the anti-oxidants, aspalathin and nothofagin, both are found in rooibos.
Valerian Root
Valerian root’s original name in Old English was meant ‘heal all’, as it was used to treat many ailments historically. Its relaxing properties have been well researched, as it is a natural sedative. Studies have also shown that it can improve co-ordination, relax muscle tissue and decrease anxiety.
Limeflowers
Also known as linden flowers, Lime Flowers have been used for centuries to treat anxiety, and sleep disorders. They give this blend a sweet aroma which pairs perfectly with its chamomile base.
Lavender
Lavender has long been used to soothe frayed nerves, and help people drift to sleep, but also gives this blend a delicate floral note.
