Three teas to support you postpartum

Postpartum can be one of the most challenging times of your life.  Sleep deprivation, breastfeeding and caring for yourself alongside a baby, are harder than they might sound.  Luckily, tea can be a great natural support.

Sleep deprivation

New parenthood will take you to a place of exhaustion that you didn't think was possible.  No one without a baby ever thinks that getting 4 hours of sleep is a 'good night', but a baby will take you there! 

In order to cope with extreme tiredness, we created a high caffeine blend, that is also high in L-theanine. This combination creates a long, gentle, slow release effect of caffeine.  Head Start will become a new breast friend. You can beat the caffeine-crash, and avoid shakey hands, heart palpitations and jitters. Just get a boost when you need it.

With white peony white tea and rose petals, it is also high in anti-oxidants, specifically EGCG which has been linked to having anti-ageing effects.  It's the perfect cuppa to get you through an early morning start, or a long afternoon.

Breastfeeding

For something completely natural, breastfeeding can feel almost alien when you start to feed your baby. It's a huge challenge.  The best way to support your body is to feed you baby on demand, as much as possible and supplement with pumping breast milk - as demand = supply.  

On top of this, ensuring you nourish your body is incredibly important.  You need to stay hydrated and drink 2 litres of water a day.  Any caffeinated drink (energy drink, coffee), will not give you as much hydration as water or herbal tea.

We'd recommend our Milk's Up breastfeeding tea, which is caffeine-free blend of herbal galactagogues - plants that have been linked to increasing both milk supply and fat content.  Fenugreek, fennel and aniseed have all been used traditionally to support milk supply.

Self-Care
